Performing in front of the people is very exiting and rewarding. The energy it gives you, the drive to get better is like nothing else.
But what if you have never performed before and have not a clue where to start. That's what we are going to share here.
So what to start with?
1. Think of a song that you like and really appeals to you. Mind that you'll have to follow the song, so it is nice to visualize yourself dancing to it.
If you think it is too fast or too slow, keep it as an option and look at another 2-3 choices. If a song is too long, it can be edited.
Think of the concept of your dance, what you would like it to be, slow, fast, dynamic, funny, corky, playful, etc. If you have a specific vision or details, write them down to review as you prepare yor routine.
2. The same goes for your image which are your costume, make up, accessories.
3. Make a list of your favorite moves. In class we do challenge ourselves, during the performance we show our best side. So there is no harm being in your comfort zone.
Making such list will help to create a balanced routine, meaning having constantly alternating complicated and easy moves, your comfortable ones with a bit less comfortable. This helps not to get too tired or getting stuck in the middle of the performance.
A list of 5-10 moves is the best. And once you have an understanding what you would like to do, more specific planning and traning will start.
If you have no idea what you would like to do, that's alright too. You can check videos online, a syllabus we use for the classes, ask your instructer to give a few suggestions.
If you have any questions, please, feel free to post on this page, we'll be happy to answer them. And no question is silly or not important. So ask away!
